AND IT SAYS WHEREAS THE SOMERSET COUNTY BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS FINDS THAT DECENT, SAFE AND AFFORDABLE HOUSING IS PART OF THE AMERICAN DREAM AND THE GOAL OF ALL SOMERSET COUNTY RESIDENTS.
AND WHEREAS, APRIL 2023 MARKS THE 55TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE PASSAGE OF THE FAIR HOUSING ACT OF 1968, WHICH GIVES INDIVIDUALS THE RIGHTS TO CHOOSE TO WHERE THEY LIVE WITHOUT DISCRIMINATION BASED ON RACE, COLOR, RELIGION, AGE, GENDER, FAMILIAL STATUS, NATIONAL ORIGIN AND OR DISABILITY.
AND WHEREAS, TO COMMEMORATE THE ANNIVERSARY OF THE PASSAGE OF THE FAIR HOUSING ACT, THE CONCEPT OF HOUSING MONTH CELEBRATED EACH APRIL BY THE COUNTY, BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS FOR THE PAST 31 YEARS, HAS FOCUSED ON THE TALENTS AND VIGOROUS LOCAL EFFORTS OF GRASSROOTS AND NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS, HOUSING SERVICE PROVIDERS, ELECTED OFFICIALS, STATE AND COUNTY AGENCIES AND OTHERS TO PRESERVE FAIR HOUSING WHILE HELPING TO CREATE AND PRESERVE HOUSING OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE RESIDENTS OF SOMERSET COUNTY.

I JUST WANTED TO SAY THAT WE ARE A NONPROFIT.
WE'VE BEEN AROUND FOR GOING ON 35 YEARS, THAT WE'VE BEEN HELPING THE COUNTY.
BUT THE COUNTY HELPS US A LOT.
THIS IS THE 55TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE FAIR HOUSING ACT.
SO THERE'S A LOT OF PEOPLE IN NEED FOR HOUSING AND AROUND THE SERVICES THAT GO WITH HOUSING, FINANCIAL LITERACY AND OTHER PROGRAMS. AND WE'RE JUST EXTREMELY GRATEFUL THAT THERE'S A FOCUS ON THIS.
