MIC] 2023 ROLL CALL.

COMMISSIONER DRAKE. COMMISSIONER MARANO, HERE.

COMMISSIONER SOOY, HERE.

DEPUTY DIRECTOR SINGLETERRY, HERE.

DIRECTOR ROBINSON.

ANY MORE REPORTS? WE DID THE PRESENTATIONS.

[PROCLAMATION]

WE HAVE A PROCLAMATION.

COMMISSIONER DRAKE.

SORRY. WE THOUGHT YOU WERE STILL IN YOUR WORK SESSION.

THAT'S OKAY.

THAT'S GREAT. OKAY.

HOW ARE YOU, SHARON? I'M GOOD.

HOW ARE YOU? OKAY. GOOD TO SEE YOU.

GOOD TO SEE YOU GUYS. NICE TO SEE YOU.

NICE TO SEE YOU.

WE'RE GOING TO. YEAH.

DON'T BE SHY. HOW ARE YOU? MONTH, AND IT'S IMPORTANT TO SECURE, APPROPRIATE, SECURE AND APPROPRIATE HOUSING IS A BASIC HUMAN NEED FOR ALL.

AND WE HAVE A PROCLAMATION FOR THE HOUSING COUNCIL.

AND IT SAYS WHEREAS THE SOMERSET COUNTY BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS FINDS THAT DECENT, SAFE AND AFFORDABLE HOUSING IS PART OF THE AMERICAN DREAM AND THE GOAL OF ALL SOMERSET COUNTY RESIDENTS.

AND WHEREAS, APRIL 2023 MARKS THE 55TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE PASSAGE OF THE FAIR HOUSING ACT OF 1968, WHICH GIVES INDIVIDUALS THE RIGHTS TO CHOOSE TO WHERE THEY LIVE WITHOUT DISCRIMINATION BASED ON RACE, COLOR, RELIGION, AGE, GENDER, FAMILIAL STATUS, NATIONAL ORIGIN AND OR DISABILITY.

AND WHEREAS, TO COMMEMORATE THE ANNIVERSARY OF THE PASSAGE OF THE FAIR HOUSING ACT, THE CONCEPT OF HOUSING MONTH CELEBRATED EACH APRIL BY THE COUNTY, BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS FOR THE PAST 31 YEARS, HAS FOCUSED ON THE TALENTS AND VIGOROUS LOCAL EFFORTS OF GRASSROOTS AND NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS, HOUSING SERVICE PROVIDERS, ELECTED OFFICIALS, STATE AND COUNTY AGENCIES AND OTHERS TO PRESERVE FAIR HOUSING WHILE HELPING TO CREATE AND PRESERVE HOUSING OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE RESIDENTS OF SOMERSET COUNTY.

AND NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE SOMERSET COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS DOES HEREBY PROCLAIM THE MONTH OF APRIL 2023 TO BE HOUSING MONTH IN THE COUNTY OF SOMERSET AND URGES ALL CITIZENS TO CARRY OUT THE ACTIVITIES AND SPIRIT OF THE HOUSING MONTH THROUGHOUT THE YEAR.

AND THAT'S OUR PROCLAMATION, AND I'M GOING TO GIVE IT TO SHARON.

THANK YOU. FEEL FREE TO IF YOU HAVE ANY COMMENTS.

I THINK HE WANTS US TO HOLD THIS UP.

YEAH, HOLD IT UP.

THANK YOU, EVERYBODY.

I JUST WANTED TO SAY THAT WE ARE A NONPROFIT.

WE'VE BEEN AROUND FOR GOING ON 35 YEARS, THAT WE'VE BEEN HELPING THE COUNTY.

BUT THE COUNTY HELPS US A LOT.

AND WE'RE VERY GRATEFUL TO ALL THE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS FOR THE SUPPORT AND FOR BRINGING A FOCUS TO HOUSING MONTH.

THIS IS THE 55TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE FAIR HOUSING ACT.

IT'S EXTREMELY IMPORTANT.

I HAVE A COUPLE OF BOARD MEMBERS HERE WITH US, SO I APPRECIATE THAT THEY'RE HERE AS WELL AS MY STAFF MEMBER, PAYLA, TONIGHT.

AND WE FOCUS ON FAIR HOUSING AS WELL AS WORK WITH A LOT OF DIFFERENT COUNTY DEPARTMENTS THAT ARE HERE, THE PLANNING BOARD, COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT OFFICE ON AGING.

SO THERE'S A LOT OF PEOPLE IN NEED FOR HOUSING AND AROUND THE SERVICES THAT GO WITH HOUSING, FINANCIAL LITERACY AND OTHER PROGRAMS. AND WE'RE JUST EXTREMELY GRATEFUL THAT THERE'S A FOCUS ON THIS.

PEOPLE DON'T REALIZE THEY THINK AFFORDABLE HOUSING IS FOR THOSE PEOPLE IS WHAT THEY'LL SAY TO ME.

AND THOSE PEOPLE ACTUALLY A TWO PERSON HOUSEHOLD RIGHT NOW IN SOMERSET COUNTY CAN MAKE ABOUT $80,000 TO $87,000 AND BE ELIGIBLE.

THEY ALSO DON'T REALIZE THAT FOR A THREE BEDROOM MODERATE, IT COSTS OVER $1,600 A MONTH FOR RENT AND THAT'S FOR AN AFFORDABLE.

SO THESE PROGRAMS ARE REALLY NECESSARY AND WE THANK THE COUNTY FOR THEIR ONGOING SUPPORT.

SO THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
