THANK YOU. WE HAVE A PROCLAMATION THAT WILL BE PRESENTED BY COMMISSIONER DRAKE.

[PROCLAMATION]

SO THIS PROCLAMATION IS FOR DISABILITY HISTORY AND AWARENESS MONTH.

WHEREAS THE 2021 AMERICAN COMMUNITY SURVEY ESTIMATED THAT 8.2% OF SOMERSET COUNTY RESIDENTS ARE LIVING WITH DISABILITIES, 4% OF THAT POPULATION HAVE AMBULATORY DIFFICULTIES, 3% HAVE COGNITIVE DIFFICULTIES, AND 2.3% HAVE HEARING DIFFICULTIES.

AND WHEREAS, TO ENSURE FULL INCLUSION OF PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES, IT IS NECESSARY TO EXPAND THE PUBLIC'S KNOWLEDGE, AWARENESS AND UNDERSTANDING OF THE HISTORY, ACHIEVEMENTS AND EXPERIENCES OF PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES.

AND WHEREAS, THE AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT AND THE ADA AMENDED ACT OF 2008 WERE PASSED TO END DISABILITY BASED DISCRIMINATION AND TO PROMOTE INCLUSION, FULL PARTICIPATION, ECONOMIC SELF-SUFFICIENCY AND EQUALITY OF OPPORTUNITIES FOR ALL WITH DISABILITIES.

AND WHEREAS, THERE IS A NEED TO INCREASE PUBLIC AWARENESS AND RESPECT FOR PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES TO TEACH FUTURE GENERATIONS THAT PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES HAVE A RICH HISTORY AND HAVE MADE VALUABLE CONTRIBUTIONS THROUGHOUT THE COUNTY AND TO ENSURE THAT FUTURE GENERATIONS UNDERSTAND THAT DISABILITY IS A NATURAL PART OF LIFE AND THAT PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES HAVE A RIGHT TO BE TREATED ABOVE ALL ELSE AS INDIVIDUALS.

AND WHEREAS, OCTOBER IS RECOGNIZED NATIONALLY AS DISABILITY AWARENESS MONTH.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED THAT THE SOMERSET COUNTY BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS DESIGNATES OCTOBER 2023 AS DISABILITY HISTORY AND AWARENESS MONTH TO FOSTER UNDERSTANDING OF THE HISTORY, ACHIEVEMENTS AND EXPERIENCES OF PERSONS WITH DISABILITY, AND URGES ALL RESIDENTS TO UPHOLD THE IDEALS OF EQUAL ACCESS AND EQUAL OPPORTUNITY FOR ALL CITIZENS WHILE CELEBRATING THE ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES IN SOMERSET COUNTY.

AND IT'S SIGNED BY THE FIVE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS.

MY NAME IS SANDRA I'M THE DISABILITY SERVICES COORDINATOR.

SO THIS MONTH IN OCTOBER, WE CELEBRATE THE HISTORY AND AWARENESS MONTH OF AND ALSO WE HAVE WE ACTUALLY THIS MONTH IS A LITTLE BIT SPECIAL FOR US SINCE WE'RE HOSTING THE DISABILITY EXPO WE ALSO PARTNER WITH THE SOMERSET COUNTY LIBRARY AND ALSO THE WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT TO ALSO CELEBRATE THE NATIONAL EMPLOYMENT, THE NATIONAL DISABILITY EMPLOYMENT AWARENESS MONTH.

SO WE ARE GOING TO HAVE A DISABILITY EXPO, JOB AND VOLUNTEER FAIR, SO IT'S GOING TO BE HOSTED AT THE SOMERSET COUNTY SENIOR CENTER IN BRIDGEWATER NEXT WEEK ON OCTOBER 5TH, FROM 4 TO 7 P.M.

SO WE'RE GOING TO HAVE ABOUT 35 VENDORS.

WE'RE GOING TO HAVE EMPLOYMENT.

WE'RE GOING TO HAVE VOLUNTEER SERVICES AND WE'RE ALSO GOING TO HAVE COMMUNITY SERVICES.

SO IT'S LIKE ALMOST LIKE A ONE STOP SHOP.

SO IF I'M LOOKING FOR EMPLOYMENT, I CAN GO THERE, SEE WHAT'S AVAILABLE FOR ME.

AND ALSO IF I NEED ANY SERVICES LIKE MEDICAID, SNAP, HOUSING SERVICES, TRANSPORTATION, I SHOULD BE GOING THERE BECAUSE THAT'S THE PLACE TO GO.

SO IT'S LIKE A ONE STOP SHOP.
