GOING INTO OUR COMMISSIONER REPORTS, WE HAVE OUR DIVERSITY FESTIVAL WHICH IS COMING UP THIS WEEKEND ALONG WITH THE HISTORIC COURTHOUSE LAWN, HIGHLIGHTING THE INCREDIBLE DIVERSITY OF PEOPLE AND CULTURE THAT MAKES SOMERSET COUNTY SO SPECIAL.

THIS YEAR WE'RE FEATURING MULTICULTURAL MUSICAL AND DANCE PERFORMANCES, AS WELL AS FOOD TRUCKS, GAMES, AND ACTIVITIES FOR PEOPLE OF ALL AGES AND THE COMMUNITY RESOURCES FOR EVERYONE.

THIS HAS REALLY BECOME A FANTASTIC ANNUAL EVENT AND I'M EXCITED TO PARTICIPATE AGAIN THIS YEAR.

HOWEVER, THERE IS A CHANCE OF BAD WEATHER, SO PLEASE CHECK IN FOR UPDATES ON THIS EVENT ON OUR WEBSITE.

THE EEC FESTIVAL OF TREES IS THE SOMERSET COUNTY PARK COMMISSION'S ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION CENTER IS HOLDING THIS FESTIVAL OF TREES AGAIN THIS YEAR AND IS SEEKING LOCAL INDIVIDUAL CIVIC GROUPS, CLUBS, AND BUSINESSES, SCOUT TROOPS AND MUSICIANS TO PARTICIPATE.

THIS IS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY TO HIGHLIGHT COMMUNITY GROUPS WITH A DECORATED TREE HIGHLIGHTING YOUR ACTIVITIES.

OR IF YOU ARE A MUSICIAN, A CHANCE TO SHOW YOUR CHOPS DURING WEEKENDS CELEBRATIONS.

I THINK WE CAN PUT TOGETHER A COMMISSIONER CHOIR.

[LAUGHTER] THE EEC ACCEPTS APPLICATIONS ON A FIRST-COME, FIRST-SERVE BASIS AND SPACE IS LIMITED.

THE APPLICATION DEADLINE IS WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 15TH BY 12:00 PM NOON.

FINALLY, FOR ME, ELECTION IS COMING UP, VOTERS ARE ALREADY CASTING THEIR BALLOTS BY MAIL, AND WE'RE JUST A LITTLE OVER TWO WEEKS AWAY FROM IN-PERSON EARLY VOTING.

YOU CAN FIND INFORMATION ON HOW TO CAST YOUR BALLOT AND WHO IS RUNNING AT WWW.SOCONJ.GOV/ELEC2023, AND DON'T FORGET THAT THERE IS STILL TIME TO REGISTER TO VOTE IF YOU'VE MOVED, ARE VOTING FOR THE FIRST TIME OR ARE TURNING 18.

YOU CAN REGISTER AT THE MVC, WHICH IS A MODAL VEHICLE COMMISSION, OR YOU CAN FIND THE LINK TO REGISTER ONLINE AT SOCON.GOV/ELEC2023.

REMEMBER, YOUR VOICE IS YOUR VOTE AND YOUR VOTE IS YOUR VOICE, AND EVERY ELECTION IS AN IMPORTANT ELECTION.

SO WE WANT TO MAKE SURE YOUR VOICE IS HEARD AND YOUR VOTE IS COUNTED.

I HAVE ONE OTHER, BUT I'LL DEFER TO COMMISSIONER DRAKE WHEN HE GIVES HIS REPORT [LAUGHTER] ON THE FUN WE HAD ON SUNDAY.

[LAUGHTER] DEPUTY DIRECTOR.

>> THANK YOU. LAST WEEK THE GREATER RARITAN WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT BOARD MET, WE RECEIVED AN UPDATE ON THE LITERACY INITIATIVE.

FOR ABOUT 100 PEOPLE HAVE BEEN SIGNED UP FOR CLASSES.

SO CLASS IS TAKING PLACE IN BURNHAM'S FIELD, BOUND BROOK, FRANKLIN, NORTH PLAINFIELD IN RARITAN, AND THERE'S GOING TO BE A LIFE SCIENCES AND

[00:05:04]

HEALTH CARE JOB FAIR AT RARITAN VALLEY COMMUNITY COLLEGE ON OCTOBER 30TH.

THE EVENT IS FREE OF CHARGE.

THERE ARE GOING TO BE MORE THAN 60 EMPLOYERS THERE.

IT'S GOING TO BE PRESENTED BY THE NEW JERSEY DEPARTMENT OF LABOR, THE GREATER WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT BOARD WORKING WITH RVCC, JOHNSON AND JOHNSON, BRISTOL-MYERS SQUIBB, THE HEALTHCARE INSTITUTION OF NEW JERSEY, AND INGENUS PHARMACEUTICALS.

LAST WEEK, THE MENTAL HEALTH BOARD MET.

ONE OF THE THINGS WE DISCUSSED IS HOW THE COMMUNITY POLICE ALLIANCE PROGRAM, WHICH HAS BEEN A GREAT SUCCESS IN BRIDGEWATER, IS NOW EXPANDING TO BOUND BROOK, I BELIEVE STARTING TODAY.

WE HIRED A NEW ALLIANCE PROGRAM COORDINATOR TO FOCUS ON BOUND BROOK.

THIS IS A GREAT PROGRAM WHERE THEY WORK WITH THE POLICE DEPARTMENT TO HELP REFER PEOPLE TO VARIOUS SOCIAL SERVICES, MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELING, SUBSTANCE ABUSE COUNSELING, THAT SORT OF THING.

MYSELF, ALONG WITH COMMISSIONER MORENO RECENTLY ATTENDED AT RARITAN VALLEY COMMUNITY COLLEGE.

THEY HAD THEIR MLT PROGRAM LAUNCH EVENT.

THIS IS A PARTNERSHIP THAT RVCC HAS MADE WITH LABCORP TO PROVIDE SCHOLARSHIPS AND TRAINING SO PEOPLE CAN LEARN HOW TO BE LAB TECHNICIANS.

THE COUNTY PROVIDED FUNDING TO ESTABLISH THE FIRST EVER COMMUNITY COLLEGE GREEN ROOMS SO THAT PEOPLE CAN TRAIN HOW TO BE LAB TECHNICIANS.

SO THIS IS A GREAT NEW PARTNERSHIP WE HAVE WITH LABCORP.

THIS WEEKEND WE HAD JOURNEY THROUGH THE PAST, ALL THE HISTORIC SITES AND SOMERSET COUNTY.

I HAD THE PLEASURE OF VISITING THE VAN HORNE HOUSE IN BRIDGEWATER AS WELL AS THE ABRAHAM STAATS HOUSE IN SOUTH BOUND BROOKE.

I PROBABLY DIDN'T GO TO QUITE AS MANY HOUSES AS MELANIE WENT TO.

[LAUGHTER] I'M SURE SHE'LL HAVE MORE TO SAY ABOUT IT.

I HAD A GOOD TIME. IT WAS A GOOD EVENT.

THAT'S MY REPORT. THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU, COMMISSIONER. I DID OUTDO YOU THAT SATURDAY.

IT WAS A GREAT WEEKEND AND I HAVE TO THANK AGAIN OUR CULTURAL AND HERITAGE TEAM, CAITLIN BUNDY AND HER TEAM.

AS ALWAYS, THE SMALL BUT MIGHTY TEAM OF THREE-AND-A-HALF CAN PULL OFF SOME AMAZING THINGS IN OUR COUNTY.

SO THANK YOU FOR YOUR TEAM.

VERY SUCCESSFUL.

LITTLE DRIZZLY ON SATURDAY, BUT WE MADE IT WORK.

SUNDAY WAS BEAUTIFUL.

SO GREAT JOB REALLY HIGHLIGHTING THE HISTORY OF SOMERSET COUNTY BECAUSE THIS IS SO IMPORTANT NOT ONLY TO WHO WE ARE AS RESIDENTS OF THIS COUNTY AND THE CULTURE, AN THE PROUD HERITAGE AND THE STRONG HISTORY THAT WE HAVE HERE, BUT THIS IS AN ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT DRIVER FOR US.

THIS CULTURAL AND HERITAGE WEEKEND BRINGS IN VISITORS FROM ALL AROUND THE STATE, IT BRINGS IN VISITORS FROM OTHER STATES, THIS IS GENERATING INCOME TO OUR ECONOMIES.

OUR SMALL BUT MIGHTY TEAM OF THREE-AND-A-HALF AND THE INVESTMENTS THAT WE'VE MADE IN OUR CULTURE AND HERITAGE AND THE ARTS ARE PAYING OFF VERY WELL FOR OUR ECONOMY HERE IN SOMERSET COUNTY.

IN ADDITION TO THIS PAST WEEKEND, WE ALSO HAD THE 1770S FESTIVAL THE PRIOR WEEKEND, WHICH WAS ALSO VERY WELL DONE.

A LOT OF WORK DONE THERE BY OUR COUNTY PARKS DEPARTMENT.

OUR FACILITIES TEAM ALWAYS HELPS OUT, SO GREAT JOB ON BOTH OF THOSE FRONTS.

WE ALSO HAD THE ELECTRIC VEHICLE CAR SHOW.

COMMISSIONER SOOY WAS THERE, COMMISSIONER DRAKE, COMMISSIONER SINGLETERRY.

WE ALL GET A CHANCE TO SEE THESE GREAT ELECTRIC VEHICLES, INCLUDING OUR SOMERSET COUNTY PASSENGER VEHICLE FOR OUR PARA-TRANSIT VEHICLE.

SO VERY PROUD OF THAT.

I ALSO ATTENDED THE CENTRAL NEW JERSEY ASSOCIATION OF COUNTIES EVENT WITH DIRECTOR ROBINSON.

GLEAN SOME GOOD INFORMATION AND PASS THAT OVER TO SOME OF OUR TEAM.

THEY GOT THE EMAILS TODAY ABOUT SOME IDEAS THAT CAME OUT OF THAT MEETING THAT I'M HOPING WE CAN FOLLOW UP ON FOR SOME MORE PROGRAMS FOR OUR FOLKS IN SOMERSET.

COMING UP FOR THE FUTURE, WE DO HAVE ON OCTOBER 28TH THE MIDDLE BROOKS SYMPOSIUM THAT THE COUNTY IS HOSTING AT THE RARITAN VALLEY COMMUNITY COLLEGE.

IT IS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.

THIS WILL BE DISCUSSING THE ENCAMPMENT CANTONMENT OF 1770 AND NOVEMBER, 1778 TO JUNE, 1779.

IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN OUR CENTRAL NEW JERSEY HISTORY, THIS IS A GREAT EVENT FOR YOU TO ATTEND.

IT IS AN ALL DAY EVENT PRETTY MUCH, SO BE PREPARED, BUT IT SHOULD BE REALLY GOOD.

WE HAVE SOME GREAT ANNOUNCEMENTS COMING UP FROM THAT.

LOOKING AT SOME OF OUR DELIVERABLES HERE, OUR TEAMS HAVE BEEN OUT 495 CARS FOR FIRST SATURDAY, 7,462 MEALS DELIVERED IN SEPTEMBER, 9,154 PARA-TRANSIT VISITS, 4,689 PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION RIDES.

[00:10:09]

LEADERSHIP SOMERSET, PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD THAT WE ARE NOW TAKING APPLICATIONS AND THEY'RE DUE BY THE END OF THE MONTH.

FOR OUR LEADERSHIP SOMERSET PROGRAM, I'M REALLY PROUD TO ANNOUNCE I'M AN ALUMNI OF THE CLASS OF 2005 AND HERE I AM A COUNTY COMMISSIONER.

SO I ENCOURAGE EVERYONE WHO LIVES OR WORKS IN SOMERSET COUNTY LOOK INTO THE PROGRAM.

THIS IS AN EXCELLENT PROGRAM TO LEARN ABOUT ALL THE SERVICES OUR COUNTY HAS AND ABOUT HOW YOU CAN CONTRIBUTE BACK TO OUR COUNTY.

PLEASE LOOK ONLINE, LEADERSHIPSOMERSET.ORG IS WHERE YOU CAN FIND YOUR APPLICATION.

OUR IMPROVEMENT AUTHORITY MET TODAY.

WE DID AN UPDATE TO OUR WEB PAGE ON THE COUNTY WEBSITE.

THAT CONCLUDES MY REPORT. THANK YOU SO MUCH.

ON SATURDAY, MUSIC IN THE SOMERSET HILLS HAD A FUNDRAISER OVER AT BLAIRSDEN.

IF YOU HAVE NOT HEARD OF THIS PROPERTY, IT IS RIGHT BEHIND NATIRAR THERE RIGHT BY THE KING OF MOROCCO'S ESTATE, AND IT WAS RECENTLY PURCHASED AND IS NOW BEING LOVED AND PRESERVED WITH A LOT OF THE DEEP HISTORY FROM THE REGION THAT REALLY RESONATES THROUGHOUT.

THIS MUSIC IN THE SOMERSET HILLS PROGRAM WAS ACTUALLY FOUNDED BY MY FORMER MUSIC TEACHER, STEPHEN STANDS, SO I STILL HAVE TO CALL MR. SANDS.

[LAUGHTER] THE REASON WHY HE DID SO IS BECAUSE MOST PEOPLE WHO HAVE THE PRIVILEGE OF BEING ABLE TO DEDICATE THEIR CAREERS OR STUDY WITHIN ANY FORM OF MUSIC, TYPICALLY COME FROM A PRIVILEGED BACKGROUND, AND THEY CAN AFFORD TO DO SO.

THIS PROGRAM, WHICH THERE ARE ALSO RECIPIENTS OF FUNDING FROM OUR CULTURAL AND HERITAGE PROGRAM, FROM GRANT DOLLARS, THEY'RE ABLE TO HAVE AN EQUITABLE PROGRAM FOR ALL MEMBERS OF OUR COMMUNITY THROUGHOUT THE SOMERSET HILLS.

IT WAS A GATSBY THEMED NIGHT AND IT WAS PHENOMENAL TO SEE THE PEOPLE ACTUALLY PERFORMING AND TO SEE MANY FUNDS RAISED FOR THAT, SO IT WAS DEFINITELY NICE TO BE BACK IN THE SOMERSET HILLS.

RIGHT DOWN THE STREET, WE HAD THE FAR HILLS RUMMAGE SALE.

IF YOU'VE EVER BEEN TO THAT, THERE'S GREAT PEOPLE THAT DONATE THE THINGS THAT THEY DON'T NECESSARILY WANT, BUT IT'S A GREAT AND AFFORDABLE WAY, SO BE ABLE TO BUY THINGS AT A GREAT DISCOUNT WITH STILL HAVING ALL THE PROCEEDS GO TO A GOOD CAUSE.

FOR THINGS ON THE PIPELINE, FOR FAR HILLS IN PARTICULAR, WE HAVE THE HUNT, ALSO KNOWN AS THE FAR HILLS RACES ON OCTOBER 21ST, THE PROCEEDS ALSO GO TO THE STEEPLECHASES SET OVER OUR ROBERT WOOD JOHNSON.

IT'S USUALLY A FANTASTIC TIME AND IT'S GREAT TO SEE THE HORSES.

FOR THE COMMISSION ON THE STATUS OF WOMAN, WE HAVE A SCHOLARSHIP BRUNCH AND WE'LL BE HAVING OUR VERY OWN COLLEEN MOORE AS OUR KEYNOTE SPEAKER ON NOVEMBER 11TH FROM 9:00 TO 11:00 A.M, AND THE SCHOLARSHIP WILL BE HELD AT THE ELKS OVER AT BRIDGEWATER.

THE FUNDS RAISED FROM THIS BRUNCH WILL BE USED TO PROVIDE SCHOLARSHIP FOR WOMAN STUDENTS AT RARITAN VALLEY COMMUNITY COLLEGE.

IF YOU CAN MAKE IT OR IF YOU CAN'T, PLEASE SET A DONATION, EVERY DOLLAR COUNTS.

WE ACTUALLY HAVE A STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE ON OUR SOMERSET COUNTY COMMISSION ON THE STATUS A WOMAN, AND SHE SAID JUST WITH $500, SHE WAS ABLE TO PAY FOR BOOKS FOR AN ENTIRE SEMESTER.

SOMETHING LIKE THAT GOES A LONG WAY, CAN ACTUALLY PAY FOR THAT OR HALF OF HER PROGRAM PENDING OTHER SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES, BUT MANY OF THESE KIDS ARE WORKING MULTIPLE JOBS AND THEY TAKE THESE OPPORTUNITIES AS THEY COME.

THAT CONCLUDES MY REPORT. THANK YOU.

>>E THANK YOU, COMMISSIONER. A FEW THINGS.

LAST WEEK, I ATTENDED AND SPOKE AT THE DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN SERVICES JOINT COUNCIL AND BOARD MEETING.

IT WAS REALLY AN AMAZING GET-TOGETHER OF PROFESSIONALS IN THE HUMAN SERVICES FIELD THAT WORK WITH SO MANY PEOPLE IN NEED.

EXPERTS DISCUSS THE EFFECTS OF SOCIAL ISOLATION AND LONELINESS AMONG SOME OF OUR MOST VULNERABLE POPULATIONS, INCLUDING TEENS AND OLDER ADULTS.

THEY DISCUSSED LONELINESS IS NOT AN ILLNESS BUT A FEATURE OF URBAN PLANNING AND SOCIETAL SYSTEMS AND HAVE NOT PRIORITIZED PEOPLE'S HEALTH AND SOCIAL NEEDS.

THERE WAS SOME GOOD NEWS THAT CAME OUT OF IT.

THERE WAS A FEW THINGS THAT WE CAN ALL DO TO IMPROVE LONELINESS, BUT AMONG SOME OF THE BEST PRACTICES THEY DISCUSSED IS TO CALL THAT FRIEND AND ANSWER THE PHONE WHEN YOU GET THE CALL FROM A FRIEND, MAKE TIME TO SHARE A MEAL WITH SOMEBODY,

[00:15:04]

LISTEN WITHOUT THE DISTRACTION OF YOUR PHONE, MAKE TIME FOR COMMUNITY SERVICE, INCLUDING THE SOMERSET COUNTY, WE NEED FOLKS TO COME OUT AND RAKE LEAVES FOR SENIORS, AND THEN ALLOW PEOPLE TO EXPRESS THEMSELVES AND YOURSELF AUTHENTICALLY.

THAT'S CERTAINLY WHAT I GOT OUT OF THE WHOLE REPORT, BUT IT WAS DEFINITELY WELL ATTENDED.

I THINK IT'S AMAZING WHEN YOU BRING A GROUP PEOPLE TOGETHER TO TALK ABOUT ISSUES LIKE LONELINESS AND HOW WE CAN IMPROVE, BUT WE HAVE SOME GREAT EXPERTS WHO WORK IN THE FIELD WORKING IN THE COUNTY AS WELL AS FOR THE STAFF IN SOMERSET COUNTY, BUT ALSO, A LOT OF OUR NON-PROFITS THAT WE SUPPORT.

TO SWITCH TOPICS, ALSO ATTENDED THE BACK TO THE FUTURE, IF I CALL IT THAT, EVENT, BUT THE JOURNEY THROUGH THE PAST I WAS SITTING THERE ON WASHINGTON ROCK WITH GEORGE WASHINGTON HAVING A GREAT DISCUSSION ABOUT THE GREAT WOMEN OF THE REVOLUTION.

THAT WAS PRETTY FASCINATING.

I ALSO VISITED THE VAN DER VEER HOUSE AND A FEW OTHERS, BUT IT'S AMAZING THE RESOURCES THAT WE HAVE IN SOMERSET COUNTY, AND HOW WE REALLY GO OUT TO PROTECT THEM NOT ONLY AS AN ASSET, BUT AS MENTIONED BEFORE BY COMMISSIONER MORENO, THEY BRING VALUE TO THE COUNTY, NOT ONLY THROUGH THE ECONOMICS, BUT REALLY THROW THE CULTURAL VALUE THAT THEY OFFER FOR PEOPLE TO APPRECIATE WHAT OUR PAST WAS LIKE HERE IN SOMERSET COUNTY.

THEN GETTING TO THE FUTURE, WE DID RECEIVE A GREAT AWARD FROM NEW JERSEY FUTURE.

WE RECEIVED AN AWARD, AND AGAIN, THIS IS GOING TO THE GREAT WORK OF THE PLANNING DEPARTMENT IN THE COUNTY, FROM NEW JERSEY FUTURE THE 2023 SMART GROWTH AWARD FOR THE SOMERSET COUNTY PRESERVATION PLAN.

WHAT'S REALLY GREAT ABOUT THIS AWARD IS THAT THIS IS ACTUALLY A HANDMADE, I GUESS YOU'D CALL IT A POTTERY PIECE THAT WAS MADE PRIMARILY FOR THIS AWARD SYSTEM.

I'M SURE THIS WILL GO HANGING SOME WAYS GREAT IN OUR COUNTY BUILDING, BUT IT REALLY REPRESENTS REALLY A DEMONSTRATION OF HOW WE CAN BRING TOGETHER FOLKS ACROSS THE COUNTY TO DO GREAT PLANNING.

I THINK WE'RE RECOGNIZED PRETTY MUCH STATEWIDE, PROBABLY AROUND THE COUNTRY, AND I'M SURE WE'RE APPLYING THIS VERY AWARD TO OUR NATIONAL AWARDS PROGRAM, SO WE'LL LOOK FORWARD TO THAT AND NOT TO PUT THE PRESSURE ON YOUR WALTER.

THEN STARTED TO WRAP UP THE WEEK I WOULD TELL YOU THAT WE VISITED SCARE FARM OVER IN HILLSBOROUGH WHERE I LIVE.

WE VISITED WITH THE FARMERS FROM SCARE FARM; RICHARD AND DEBORAH NOAHS [PHONETIC].

THEY TOOK US ON A TOUR THAT WAS THE BACK ROOM OF THE TOUR.

SCARE FARM IS ONE OF THE MANY PLACES IN SOMERSET COUNTY THAT OFFER AGRICULTURAL ACTIVITIES OR AGRITOURISM THROUGHOUT THE COUNTY, BUT THEY HAVE A GREAT EVENT NOW THROUGH HALLOWEEN WHERE YOU CAN GO AND BE VERY SCARED.

I THINK YOU'LL SEE MORE OF IT WITH SOME FILMING THAT ARE COMING OUT WITH IT, BUT THE BEHIND THE SCENES EXPERIENCE WAS CERTAINLY PRETTY AMAZING, BUT AT THE SAME TIME, FOLKS WHO ARE ENJOYING A NIGHT OUT IN THE BEAUTIFUL WEATHER IN THE FALL REALLY THE LINES EVEN ON A SUNDAY EVENING WHERE WE'RE PRETTY OUT THERE.

AS WE MOVE INTO COMING CLOSER TO HALLOWEEN, THERE'LL BE GREATER LINES THEMSELVES, BUT GET OUT THERE AND ENJOY SCARE FARM IN HILLSBOROUGH.

YOU HAVE COMMENTS, COMMISSIONER? [LAUGHTER]

>> I'M GLAD I DID NOT GO ON THE RIDE, BUT I ENJOYED BEHIND THE SCENES, UNDERSTANDING HOW THEY PUT EVERYTHING TOGETHER.

ENJOYED THE MARKET AND ABLE TO TASTE SOME OF THE FOODS, TOOK A COUPLE OF BAKED GOODS HOME.

THEN MY APPLE PIE THAT I PURCHASED THAT WAS FRESHLY MADE THAT MORNING, I'VE ONLY GOTTEN ONE SLICE.

MY FAMILY SAID THAT WAS ONE OF THE BEST PIES THAT THEY'VE TASTED, SO EVIDENCE OF ME ONLY BEEN LEFT WITH ONE SLICE.

BUT CERTAINLY, THE AGRICULTURE COMMUNITY, THE FARMERS NEED OUR HELP, AND THEY HAD TO HAVE COME UP WITH DIFFERENT INITIATIVES TO STAY ALIVE.

IT'S NO LONGER JUST GROWING CROP AND SELLING THEIR CROPS TO THE MARKETS, BUT DEFINITELY HAVING THEIR OWN MARKET, HAVING THEIR OWN BAKED GOODS, COMING UP WITH THESE DIFFERENT INITIATIVES, SUCH AS, SCARE FARM, AND INVITING THE COMMUNITY TO COME AND SEE WHAT THEY HAVE TO OFFER.

SUPPORT OUR AD COMMUNITY, GO TO ANY OF THE FARMS IN SOMERSET COUNTY TO ENJOY THIS FALL SEASON, BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY, GET TO KNOW WHO WE ARE AND WHAT WE HAVE IN OUR OWN BACKYARD.

[00:20:01]

I HAD A SCARY, FUN TIME. [LAUGHTER].

>> THAT'S GOOD, [LAUGHTER] AND I'M SURE MORE TO COME ON THAT.

>> [LAUGHTER] WE HAVE A FEW RECOGNITIONS.

DO WE HAVE GRETCHEN HERE, FEDERICO, DANIEL, KYLE, ERIC, IS IT JORGE, TOM, AND KEVIN, IF YOUR ARE HERE? [BACKGROUND] COME ON UP, GRETCHEN.

>> GRETCHEN, YOU'RE FIRST.

>> CONGRATULATIONS. WE'RE HERE TO RECOGNIZE GRETCHEN FOR A SPECIAL RECOGNITION AWARD.

WE LIKE TO DO THIS BECAUSE FOLKS THROUGHOUT THE COUNTY, WE KNOW HOW IMPORTANT IT IS THAT WHEN YOU DO GREAT THINGS, WE WANT TO RECOGNIZE THAT AND ALL OUR STAFF ARE TERRIFIC.

BUT THIS BRINGS YOU OUT AS A SPECIAL RECOGNITION AWARD TO GRETCHEN CRAIG.

IN RECOGNITION AND SINCERE APPRECIATION OF YOUR OUTSTANDING EFFORTS AND FURTHERING THE CAUSE OF GOOD GOVERNMENT.

IT READS THAT GRETCHEN WENT ABOVE AND BEYOND WHEN THE HFAQ WAS NOT WORKING PROPERLY IN 27 WARREN.

SHE TO THE THIRD FLOOR TWICE A DAY TO PHOTOGRAPH AND DOCUMENT THE TEMPERATURES IN EACH AREA OF THE OFFICES AND LABELING EACH LOCATION AND THE THERMOSTAT.

SHE ALSO STAYED IN CONSTANT CONTACT WITH THE PROPERTY OWNER TO MAKE SURE THEY WERE ADDRESSING THE ISSUE IN A TIMELY FASHION.

WITH GRETCHEN STEPPING UP TO HANDLE THE SITUATION, WE DO NOT HAVE TO SEND F&S EMPLOYEES OVER THERE CONTINUOUSLY THROUGHOUT THE DAY.

REALLY DEMONSTRATED GREAT LEADERSHIP AND CERTAINLY WAS A WELCOME OPPORTUNITY.

I KNOW WHEN YOU'RE WORKING IN AN ENVIRONMENT WHERE IT'S EXTREMELY HOT AND THE AC IS NOT WORKING, IT'S NOT A PLEASANT PLACE TO WANT TO WORK.

THROUGH YOUR EFFORTS, YOU REALLY WERE ABLE TO GET ATTENTION TO THAT AND MAKE OUR PLACES A LOT BETTER TO WORK IN.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH GRETCHEN.

[APPLAUSE]

>> I GOT THE RECYCLING CREW. COME ON UP.

[LAUGHTER]

>> LET ME GRAB THIS BEHIND YOU.

IF I MAY. OUR TEAM IN THE RECYCLING RECENTLY HAD A TRUCK FIRE.

NOW, HAD THEY NOT RESPONDED QUICKLY, PROPERLY, AND AS THEY WERE TRAINED, WE COULD HAVE LOST A TRUCK, WE COULD HAVE HAD DAMAGE TO PROPERTY, WE COULD HAVE HAD DAMAGE TO PEOPLE.

BUT THESE FIVE GUYS REACTED LOGICALLY, QUICKLY AND SAID, LET'S GET OUR TRUCK OUT TO A SAFE AREA.

THEY GOT INTO A SAFE AREA BY THE BALLPARK.

THEY UNLOADED ALL THE MATERIALS THAT WERE SMOKING, GOT EVERYTHING TAKEN CARE OF.

WELL, WAS IT EVER BLAZING?

>> YEAH.

>> IT WAS BLAZING. [LAUGHTER] GOT THE BLAZE OUT.

[LAUGHTER] GOT THE BLAZERS OUT HERE, GOT EVERYTHING CLEANED UP AFTER THAT BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT THESE GUYS DO FOR ALL OF US ALL THE TIME.

NO LOSS OF PROPERTY, NO INJURIES.

YOU GUYS TOOK CARE OF IT.

YOU SAVED AN INCREDIBLE AMOUNT OF RESOURCES FOR THIS COUNTY.

YOU SAVED A LOT OF PEOPLE AND CAUTION AND RESIDENTS' HOMES AND TREES THAT WERE IN THAT AREA.

[APPLAUSE]

[00:25:01]

>> OVER HERE.

>> AND I'VE GOT DANIEL.

>> THAT'S ME.

>> I'VE GOT FREDERICO.

>> HE'S NOT HERE.

>> NOT HERE? ARE YOU GOING TO BE THERE?
