THE PUBLIC MAY PARTICIPATE IN THIS MEETING BY CALLING (908) 231-7075.
PLEASE RISE FOR THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE AND REMAIN STANDING.
ALLEGIANCE]. AT THIS TIME WE WILL HAVE A MOMENT OF SILENCE AS WE HONOR THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF PUBLIC SERVICE OF CONGRESSMAN BILL PASCRELL JR.
THANK YOU. WELCOME, EVERYONE, TO THE AUGUST 27TH WORK SESSION OF THE SOMERSET COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS.
. WE WILL GO INTO OUR COMMISSIONER REPORTS.
I AM REPORTING, WITH PERMISSION OF THE DEPUTY DIRECTOR THAT SHE IS HOME RECOVERING FROM COVID.
BUT OUT OF AN ABUNDANCE OF CAUTION, SHE IS HOME RECUPERATING AND RECOVERING.
ON LAST WEEK COMMISSIONER DRAKE AND I ATTENDED.
WHERE IT WAS THEIR SECOND NIGHT OF COMMUNITY.
WHO ELSE WAS THERE? WHO ELSE SPOKE TO THE PROSECUTOR? AND THEN MAYOR GALLAGHER.
DAMIEN, WERE YOU THERE? NO, YOU WEREN'T THERE. OKAY.
I'M SORRY, I DON'T HAVE MY GLASSES ON.
DETECTIVE KELLY. THANK YOU, DETECTIVE KELLY.
YES. SO WE HAD OPERATION HELPING HANDS.
SO AND THANK YOU, SIENNA, FOR BEING THERE FOR TAKING PICTURES.
BUT CERTAINLY IT WAS THEIR SECOND NIGHT OF COMMUNITY WHERE THEY HONOR.
THANKING ELLEN AND JACK FOR THEIR COMMITMENT TO DRUG AWARENESS.
THEY CONTINUE TO LIFT UP THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF THEIR SON, WHO LOST HIS LIFE TO A DRUG OVERDOSE.
IT'S CERTAINLY THEY LIFTED UP AND REMEMBERED MISS FINLEY IN HER WORK AND EFFORTS WITH DRUG ADDICTION AND AWARENESS AND I'LL JUST LEAVE YOU WITH A COUPLE OF POINTS.
WE AS A COUNTY, HAVE RECEIVED MORE THAN $1.5 MILLION FROM OUR OPIOID SETTLEMENT FUND AND HAVE BEEN WORKING HARD TO DISTRIBUTE THOSE MONIES TO LOCAL MUNICIPAL AND NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS.
VERY IMPRESSED WITH OUR PARTNERS AND THEIR DEDICATION IN REDUCING HARM AND SAVING LIVES AND SOME WHO WERE THERE THAT NIGHT AND TOLD THEIR STORIES AND I, YOU KNOW, CONTINUE TO ENCOURAGE PEOPLE TO TELL THEM YOUR TEST IS YOUR TESTIMONY.
AND ELLEN AND JACK HAVE ALLOWED THEIR PAIN AND THEIR LOSS TO BE THEIR PURPOSE DRIVEN, THEIR IMPACT AND THE LOVE FOR OTHERS TO MAKE SURE THAT IF OTHERS HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY FOR THEIR LIVES TO BE SAVED OR FAMILIES NOT TO GO THROUGH WHAT THEY'VE BEEN THROUGH, THEY HAVE LED A PURPOSE DRIVEN LIFE TO CONTINUE THAT EFFORT.
SO THANK YOU TO EVERYONE INVOLVED IN KEEPING THE AWARENESS AND THE AND THE EFFORTS THAT WE HAVE GOING ON TO THE COMMUNITY SO PEOPLE KNOW THAT THEY'RE NOT ALONE AND THAT WE'RE THERE FOR THEM, WITH THEM EVERY STEP OF THE WAY.
ALSO YESTERDAY WAS INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S EQUALITY DAY.
SO TO ALL THE WOMEN DOING GREAT THINGS AROUND THE WORLD, BUT ESPECIALLY HERE, HOMEGROWN IN SOMERSET COUNTY WITH THE PASSAGE OF THE AMENDMENT, WOMEN GAINED THE RIGHT TO VOTE ON AUGUST 26TH OF 1920.
[00:05:01]
AND WILL PROCLAIM IT AS WOMEN'S EQUALITY DAY AND DESPITE THESE GAINS, WOMEN STILL NEED TO MAKE GREAT STRIDES IN ORDER TO ACHIEVE CIVIC, ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL EQUALITY AND IN ADDITION TO THAT, I'M PROUD TO SAY THAT THE COMMISSION ON THE STATUS OF WOMEN PACKED AND DISTRIBUTED OVER 100 BOOK BAGS ON.YESTERDAY, WE DISTRIBUTED THEM TO THE SOMERSET COUNTY FOOD FOOD BANK, SHARING NETWORK, CMO, CATHOLIC CHARITIES AND THANKS TO THE EFFORTS OF THE ERIC MURDOCK FOUNDATION THE NEW JERSEY EDUCATION ASSOCIATION STAFF AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS, THAT WE WERE ABLE TO MAKE THAT POSSIBLE AND THE REMAINING BAGS, MORE TO COME.
WE WILL DISTRIBUTE THEM TO EMPLOYEES WHO THEIR FAMILIES MAY BE IN NEED.
IT WILL BE DONE DISCREETLY, BUT CERTAINLY WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE MAKING SURE THAT CHARITY STARTS AT HOME AND THAT WE'RE GIVING BACK TO THE EMPLOYEES THAT MAY BE IN NEED AS WELL. SO KUDOS TO THE COMMISSION ON THE STATUS OF WOMEN FOR THAT AND THAT CONCLUDES MY REPORT AT THIS TIME.
OUR TRANSPORTATION DIVISION GOT ANOTHER CONGRATULATIONS FROM THE NEW JERSEY CLEAN CO, NEW JERSEY CLEAN CITIES COALITION CONGRATULATING US FOR OUR EV FLEET, FOR OUR PARATRANSIT TRIPS AND OUR SENIOR TRIPS.
WE'VE SAVED 11,269 GALLONS OF GASOLINE BECAUSE OF THESE THESE FUEL EFFICIENT, WELL, THESE ENERGY ELECTRIC VEHICLES. SORRY. I'VE GOT A COLD TODAY, AND I'M REALLY TRIPPING UP.
WE'VE SAVED OVER 23.8 GASOLINE POWERED CARS OFF THE ROAD BY DOING OUR VANS LIKE THAT, SO WE'RE REALLY PROUD OF THEM AND THEY CONTINUE TO DO GREAT WORKS IN TRANSPORTATION.
OUR CHIP, OUR CULTURAL HERITAGE PRESERVATION TEAM WE HAD OUR DOCENT TRAINING PROGRAM WITH OUR CONSULTANT COME IN AND OUR STAKEHOLDERS FROM THE FIVE GENERALS HOUSES.
EVERYONE WAS REALLY PARTICIPATING.
SO WE'RE REALLY EXCITED ABOUT THAT PROGRAM.
AS THAT CONTINUES TO UNFOLD AND JUST ON THE HORIZON, MAKE SURE YOU SAVE THE DATE.
SEPTEMBER 29TH IS OUR DIVERSITY FESTIVAL, SO IT SHOULD BE AWESOME AS IT ALWAYS IS.
PLEASE KEEP IT ON YOUR CALENDAR AND THAT CONCLUDES MY REPORT BEFORE I TRIP UP ON ANY OTHER WORDS.
I ALSO WANT TO COMMEND THE JACK AND ELLEN REYNOLDS FOR THE NON EASY FIX SEMINAR WE HAD LAST SATURDAY NIGHT. [INAUDIBLE] AS EXPLAINED BY THE DIRECTOR, JACK ELLEN REYNOLDS LOST THEIR SON TO DRUG OVERDOSE AND I GUESS BEFORE HE DIED, HE ENVISIONED THIS CONCEPT OF NOT AN EASY FIX AS A NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION AND ULTIMATELY, HIS PARENTS TOOK UP THE CAUSE AND IT'S REALLY BEEN A TERRIFIC AN EVENT, BUT REALLY AN ORGANIZATION THAT BRINGS PEOPLE TOGETHER.
[00:13:32]
THANK YOU. SO LAST WEEK, THE SOMERSET COUNTY HELPS OUTREACH VAN WAS AT THE BOUNDBROOK TRAIN STATION.MYSELF AND COMMISSIONER DRAKE STOPPED BY.

THANK YOU. I FAILED TO MENTION ONE OTHER THING BECAUSE MY NOTES ARE ALL OVER THE PLACE.
I WANT TO CONGRATULATE DAMIEN STACKHOUSE AND IS IT JUSTIN? I'M SORRY, THE NEW CPAC.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR JOBS AND EFFORT TO MAKING SURE THAT OUR RESIDENTS ARE SAFE, AND GETTING THE WRAPAROUND SERVICES THAT THEY NEED WHEN THEY'RE IN CRISIS.
THE CPAC'S ROLE IS VERY IMPORTANT IN CARRYING OUT THE DIRECTIVES, STRENGTHENING OF LAW ENFORCEMENT, COLLABORATION, DATA DRIVEN DECISION MAKING, ENHANCED CRISIS NEGOTIATION CAPABILITIES.
PROACTIVE COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT.
HOLISTIC APPROACH TO PUBLIC SAFETY.
THE IMPORTANCE OF COLLABORATION AND TRAINING WITH THE PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE.
INCREASED TRUST AND COOPERATION.
THAT'S AT HIGH LEVEL OF SOME OF THE THINGS THAT THEY'RE WORKING ON WITH THE COMMUNITY POLICE ALLIANCE GROUP AND WE ARE FORTUNATE TO HAVE SOME OF THE TOP NOTCH TALENT TO LEAD THESE EFFORTS AND I'VE SAID IT BEFORE, EVEN THOUGH THE STATE HAS THEIR ARRIVE PROGRAM, THEY ACTUALLY UTILIZE OUR RESOURCES IN ORDER TO ARRIVE AT THEIR ARRIVE PROGRAM.
SO I JUST WANTED TO POINT THAT OUT AND MISS MAHR, DO YOU HAVE ANYTHING? ALL RIGHT. WE'LL MOVE RIGHT ALONG WITH OUR PROGRAM HERE.
PROFESSIONAL ACHIEVEMENT AWARD, [INAUDIBLE].
ALL RIGHT, SO THIS IS AN EXCITING THING.
KATIE HENDRICKS IS GETTING AN EMPLOYEE RECOGNITION AWARD FOR HER ACHIEVEMENT.
FOR EARNING A CERTIFICATE IN CREATIVE PLACEMAKING FROM NJIT AFTER COMPLETING 60 HOURS OF CLASSROOM INSTRUCTION AND 30 HOURS OF COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT ACTIVITIES.
NOW YOU MAY ASK, WHAT IS CREATIVE PLACEMAKING? IT IS A PROCESS THAT USES ARTS AND CULTURE TO SHAPE THE PHYSICAL AND SOCIAL CHARACTER OF A PLACE TO IMPROVE THE PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT, PROMOTE SOCIAL CHANGE AND ENCOURAGE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT.
SO OBVIOUSLY, ALL THINGS THAT WE'RE STRIVING FOR HERE IN SOMERSET COUNTY.
WE ARE SO EXCITED TO PRESENT THIS TO YOU AND THANK YOU FOR YOUR GREAT ACHIEVEMENT.
DO YOU WANT TO SAY A FEW WORDS ABOUT IT? GREAT. EARNING THIS CERTIFICATE WAS DEFINITELY A LOT OF HARD WORK, BUT IT WAS ALSO REALLY WORTH IT AND I JUST WANT TO SAY THAT I REALLY APPRECIATE THE FACT THAT I WORK FOR A TEAM THAT VALUES PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT SO MUCH AND I WANT TO THANK CAITLIN BUNDY, WHO IS THE MANAGER OF CULTURAL AND HERITAGE, WHO NOMINATED ME FOR THIS AWARD. SHE KNOWS THAT THOSE MANY HOURS OF CLASSROOM INSTRUCTION DID INDEED HAPPEN, BECAUSE I KEPT COMING IN THE MORNING, WAS SO EXCITED TO JUST SHARE WHAT WE LEARNED IN THE CLASS BEFORE.
