YEAH. WE SHOULD. YEAH. BECAUSE JOANNE'S HERE, RIGHT?

[00:00:06]

BECAUSE THAT'S YOU. RIGHT, JOANNE? YEAH. LET'S DO THAT.

SO YOU COULD. YOU'RE HERE NOW? YEAH. COME ON UP.

GOOD IDEA. PAUL. WE'RE NOT. WE'RE NOT RECESSING YET.

OKAY, SEND IN THAT LAST MOTION TO GO INTO RECESS AND CONTINUING WITH THE REGULAR MEETING.

YES. TO GIVE THE PROCLAMATION FOR ELDER ABUSE AWARENESS DAY.

[PROCLAMATIONS]

YES. THANK YOU. COUNCILOR. THANK YOU FOR THAT.

I WANTED TO MAKE SURE I KNEW WHERE I WAS ON THE PROGRAM. THANK YOU, I APPRECIATE THAT.

KEEPING US ALL ON TRACK HERE. PAUL, I FORGOT THIS LAST TIME, SO.

IT'S ON NOW. OH. ALL RIGHT. SO VERY EXCITING.

WE JUST WANTED TO DO THIS RESOLUTION. NOW, BEFORE WE GO HAVE OUR MILK TOAST ACROSS THE WAY.

BUT WE'RE HERE ON A RESOLUTION FOR WORLD ELDER ABUSE AWARENESS DAY FOR 2025.

WE HAVE A RESOLUTION THAT RECOGNIZES THAT WHEREAS THE COUNTY OF SOMERSET RECOGNIZES THE CONTRIBUTIONS OF ELDER ADULTS WHO SERVE AS LEADERS, MENTORS, VOLUNTEERS AND VITAL MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY.

AND WHEREAS, IN 2006, THE INTERNATIONAL NETWORK FOR THE PREVENTION OF ELDER ABUSE IN SUPPORT OF THE UNITED NATIONS INTERNATIONAL PLAN OF ACTION, PROCLAIMED A DAY TO RECOGNIZE THE SIGNIFICANCE OF ELDER ABUSE AS A PUBLIC HEALTH AND HUMAN RIGHTS AWARENESS ISSUE.

AND WHEREAS ELDER ABUSE COMES IN MANY FORMS, INCLUDING PHYSICAL OR EMOTIONAL ABUSE AND NEGLECT, SEXUAL VIOLENCE OR FINANCIAL EXPLOITATION, AND WHEREAS THESE AND OTHER ABUSES CAN LEAVE OLDER AMERICANS WITH SCARS, BOTH VISIBLE AND INVISIBLE, THAT IMPACT THEM FOR THE REST OF THEIR LIVES.

AND WHEREAS THESE AND OTHER ABUSES CAN HAPPEN ANYWHERE AT HOME, AT A CARE FACILITY, AT WORK OR ONLINE, AND WHEREAS IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT ALL OF US RECOGNIZE THE THREATS OF ELDER ABUSE AND EDUCATE OURSELVES TO RECOGNIZE IT WHEN IT OCCURS, AND LEARN HOW TO SPEAK OUT AGAINST IT AND REPORT IT TO THE PROPER AUTHORITIES.

AND WHEREAS SOMERSET COUNTY WORKS TO PREVENT ABUSE OF OLDER ADULTS THROUGH ITS ACTIVE ADULT PROTECTION SERVICES UNIT AND BY MAINTAINING IMPROVING SOCIAL SUPPORT SERVICES LIKE SENIOR CENTERS, HUMAN SERVICES, AND COUNSELING AND TRANSPORTATION PROGRAMS THAT ALLOW SOMERSET COUNTY RESIDENTS TO CONTINUE TO LIVE AS INDEPENDENTLY AS POSSIBLE AND CONTRIBUTE TO THE LIFE AND VIBRANCY OF OUR COMMUNITIES.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED THAT THE SOMERSET COUNTY BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS DOES HEREBY DECLARE JUNE 15TH AS ELDER ABUSE AWARENESS DAY AND ENCOURAGES ALL RESIDENTS TO JOIN IN STANDING WITH ELDER ABUSE SURVIVORS, SHEDDING LIGHT ON THIS IMPORTANT ISSUE, ON THIS IMPORTANT ISSUE, AND CREATING A WORLD IN WHICH NO OLDER AMERICAN HAS TO LIVE IN FEAR OF VIOLENCE, ABUSE OR NEGLECT. AND IT'S SIGNED BY THE FIVE FOUR COUNTY COMMISSIONERS.

I JUST WANT TO SAY SOMETHING. SO I JUST WANT TO SAY THANK YOU FOR RECOGNIZING AND ACKNOWLEDGING THIS IMPORTANT ISSUE AND FOR THIS PROCLAMATION. SOME OF US PROBABLY KNOW INDIVIDUALS IN OUR OWN LIVES WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED ELDER ABUSE EITHER FROM CAREGIVERS OR FROM OTHERS. AND I THINK ALL OF US COLLECTIVELY HAVE A RESPONSIBILITY TO BE VIGILANT, TO ENSURE THAT OUR SENIORS IN OUR HOMES AND IN OUR COMMUNITY ARE SAFE AND FREE FROM THESE KINDS OF ABUSES. SO THANK YOU FOR THAT.

JOANNE. WELL SAID BY THE BOTH OF YOU. I KNOW WE NEED TO GO OUT TO THE FIELD, AND I APPRECIATE YOU MOVING THIS TO THE NEXT THING.

I JUST DID WANT TO MAKE AWARE THAT WE DO HAVE A JOINT COLLABORATIVE WITH THE BOARD OF SOCIAL SERVICES FOR ADULT PROTECTIVE SERVICES, AND ON FRIDAY, YOU WILL NOTICE STAFF AT THE BOARD AND IN OUR HUMAN SERVICES AREA WEARING PURPLE RIBBONS TO SIGNIFY WORLD ELDER ABUSE DAY WILL ALSO BE HANDING OUT SOME EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS SO THAT ANYBODY WHO DOES KNOW SOMEBODY WHO IS SUFFERING FROM ABUSE WOULD FEEL SAFE ENOUGH TO REACH OUT TO US SO WE COULD HELP.

THANK YOU. COME ON DOWN. YEAH. WE SHOULD. WE.

SHOULD I KEEP THIS? BEAUTIFUL.
